Project : Operation Smile
Jubilant Bhartia Foundation (JBF) and Jubilant First Trust Healthcare
Limited (JFTH) jointly supporting - Operation Smile
Jubilant Kalpataru Hospital, is an integral part of Jubilant First Trust
Healthcare. JFTH is in the process of setting up an integrated network of
Hub-and-spoke hospitals in the state. The Company will create a total
capacity of 1000 beds across 7 hospitals and 2 nursing schools/college.
Jubilant Kalpataru Hospital & Operation Smile joined hands to eradicate
Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate deformities in children. In association with
Operation Smile, Jubilant Kalpataru Hospital set up the first comprehensive
Cleft Care Centre in India in April 2008. During the last 2
years, Jubilant Kalpataru Hospital has carried out over 550 successful
surgeries on poor children with these deformities, observing highest
standards of care and quality. The cost has been borne entirely by the
hospital and Operation Smile; resulting in free treatment to these poor
children from a rural background.
Jubilant Bhartia Foundation and Jubilant First Trust Healthcare
Limited(JFTH) are partnering towards the success of the Operation Smile
project in India. The focus of this partnership will be to ensure the
financial support and proper utilization of the funds for Cleft Lip and
Cleft Palate Operations.
- Operation Smiles humanitarian work helps children by correcting
their facial disfigurements through the gift of medicine and surgery; a
change that brings about a more positive life along with a healthier
self-image.
- It costs around Rs 12,500/$ 240 USD and can take as little as 45
minutes to repair a childs cleft lip and change their lives
forever.
- Approximately one in every 600 Indian children is born with a cleft
lip and/or cleft palate with an estimated backlog of more than 1 million
people living with untreated facial deformities.
- Children with facial deformities often have difficulty breathing,
drinking, eating and speaking, which combined with their appearance
leads to their social isolation and ridicule. The stigma attached to
their deformity render them unable to live fulfilling lives as they are
often not admitted to school, not allowed to play with other children
and sometimes even forbidden from going outside.
